Looper Movie or Shifters Book?

I am beginning to think that James and I are psychic, because several of the events we thought up in the Crisis Trilogy actually came to pass. Eerie. But again, there is nothing new under the sun when writing a fiction novel (or in our case, a movie book); just new ways of retelling old stories. So, it was of no surprise to us when we finished our latest book, Shifters, that we learned a similar movie would grace the big screen. We've recently heard about Looper, the sci-fi joint with Bruce Willis that features time traveling assassins. At first I was irritated, wishing we'd chosen another route or released the book a year ago. But, now I embrace it. What greater honor that to tie your own book into a new movie that features the immortal Bruce Willis, who is by far one of my favorite actors.

Still, I had to know more about the movie, so I read the synopsis. I had to laugh when I discovered that the assassins come from 2077, which is the same year as the final cataclysm in the 711 universe, which is mentioned in Jami Lynn Saunders' Werecat Saga, as well as the TV book series, Phoenix Earth, and of course, it will be mentioned next year in Shifters II.

So, is it psychic ability or just crazy coincidence? Regardless, I am sure you'll love the movie, Looper. But, I'm even more sure you'll triple love our new book Shifters, because not only does it have time traveling assassins, but it also reveals the "true" history of Atlantis and the building of the pyramids. Now that's sci-fi for you!

Super 8 is now on Netflix

Just watched Super 8 on Netfix...Oh how I love my iPad. Yet another book or movie that is eerily similar to what I write. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who haven't seen the movie yet, but I was shocked toward the end when I figured out what the "thing" was creating. It reminded me of the star fire cube from my book, D.N.A. - David Noble, Alien. Which brings up another point that will soon be the subject of a blog series. I have NOT read books by people like Rachel Vincent, Amanda Hocking, or Pitticus Lore before releasing my material. Yet, funny enough, my fans keep telling me how my stories remind them of the Shifters series by Rachel Vincent (yep, it's about a werecat, ha-ha), Hollowlands and Hollowmen by Amanda Hocking, and of course, I Am Number Four by Pitticus Lore, which is very similar to D.N.A. Honestly, I get my inspiration from Netflix movies, especially the old B-rated flix. I like to think, "What if..." as I watch a new movie. So, there you have it, I'm a Netflix junkie, along with most of the other 711 Press scribes, as I hear it via Skype meetings. If you want to write a book, I suggest you subscribe to Netflix and do the same for creative inspiration.

Any Good Fiction Books on the Dark Ages?

I'm looking for a good fiction read that takes place during the Dark Ages. Considering Amazon Kindle is loaded with fiction offerings, you think it would be easy to find what I am looking for. Knowing our writing style, I'd prefer a little magic spun into the tales, and it could even involve arcaeologists during that period discovering ancient ruins, pyramids, etc.

If anyone can suggest some great authors who cover this time period, I'd appreciate it. As a token of my appreciation, I may even tell you what happens to Caesar and Annie's kids, since at this point, James and I are not planning to write a Crisis sequel, though we've already imagined what happened to little Caesar and Annie during their teen years while being raised by Galton, Adelaide, and uncle Fiero....

Shifting in Time

Hello Crisis trilogy fans and friends, updating you on the writing side of things. James and I are hard at work on our next Movie Book project, Shifters, which is a duology. Book I is due out this year. We like to have the covers beforehand to inspire us, but we had a difficult time trying to decide on the cover since this duology has so many cinematic scenes. We think you'll like what we finally chose.

So what is Shifters about? Well, considering we live in the 711 Press universe, we're able to borrow from other 711 Press stories. Inspired by the TV Book series Order of 5ive, James and I felt we wanted to expand on Devin Podrick, one of the characters from Order of 5ive Episode 0: Origins. We came up with one heck of a story that explains how the Order kids developed their powers. We've also tied in bits and pieces of other books. Since we consider Jami Lynn Saunders our little sister, we've added a bit of Werecat Saga info in a roundabaout way that will eventually explain how the airborne virus swept across the US. However, it won't be so obvious ;)

Shifters is a sci-fi joint that takes you through space and time. If you'd combine Back to the Future with Stargate you might get a glimsp of what Shifters is about. The first book will be out in the summer, the second in 2013. Can't wait to hear your response.
